Varithena

What Is Varithena®?

Varithena®vein treatments are one of the most exciting developments for patients with varicose veins in recent years. When the one-way valves in our leg veins fail, blood flow actually reverses and moves down the leg rather than up, leading to pooling and the development of varicose veins. While treatments such as Endovenous Ablation are great options for treating most leaky veins, there are certain situations where an ablation is not the best solution, and for these scenarios, Siragusa Vein and Laser is proud to offer Varithena.

What To Expect From Varithena Treatment?

To treat the diseased veins, Dr. Siragusa will first use an ultrasound to correctly identify where the medication is needed. Varithena is then injected into the problematic vein. Once injected, the Varithena foam causes the walls of the vein to swell shut and the varicose vein to collapse, forcing blood into nearby healthy veins, restoring normal circulation. Over time, the treated vein is absorbed by the body. This non-surgical procedure requires no incision and is better tolerated than other catheter techniques. Varithena reduces the appearance of bulging veins and relieves discomfort associated with problematic veins such as heaviness, swelling, itching, throbbing, and aching.

What To Expect After Varithena Treatment?

Following the procedure, compression stockings are worn for five days, and should be removed at night before bed. Light exercise may be resumed the day after treatment, and full activities may be resumed 72 hours after treatment. Some patients may experience mild bruising, which can be minimized by applying Dermaka™ to the affected area twice a day. This is available for purchase in our offices.

Is Varithena Right For Me?

To determine if Varithena is the right treatment for you, first set up a consultation at one of Siragusa Vein and Lasers offices. During your consultation, we will discuss your medical history, perform a physical examination as well as a duplex ultrasound of your veins. Based upon our findings, we will discuss your treatment options and how they best fit for your individual needs.
