How Does Botox Work?
BOTOX® and Dysport® are purified proteins which temporarily block the nerve signals that cause our facial muscles to contract. After these proteins are injected, these muscles are prevented from fully contracting, which prevents the formation of the lines, folds, and wrinkles in the skin’s surface.
What to expect at my Botox appointment
Before any botox injections are administered, we will look at specific areas of interest for treatment as well as examine other areas by asking that you move your facial muscles and create the smile and frown lines we are going to be treating.
After establishing what areas need treatment and drawing up the correct amount of botox for those areas, a series of small injections will be used to administer the botox.
Patients liken these small injections to a light pinch. While most patients are fine receiving botox without numbing cream, we do offer it for those who prefer the numbing effects.
Recovery and Results for Botox
After botox treatments, patients can expect some small spots of redness or swelling which will subside after about 15 minutes. There is a potential for bruising which can last up to 1 week.
Patients will begin to notice results within 3-4 days, with results maximizing at 2 weeks after treatment. Results can last up to 3-4 months.
